A Letter From The Chair
Shari Carlozzi, Director of Safety Services at WTI & NWIR Chair
As the end of the year closes in, I’m taking some time to reflect on all that has happened in 2018: the great accomplishments, the challenges along the way and the goals I have yet to achieve. It’s all good, you know, but nothing worthwhile comes without its challenges along the way.
2018 has been a year of many changes for me. Taking the reigns as Chair of NWIR and starting a new job with WTI at Tremco are two of the greatest changes for me and I would do it again in a heartbeat! But sometimes it’s those little personal challenges that help you realize just how everything works together to make us the best we can be. I am grateful for those as well…but let’s talk about YOU!
If you casted your ever-important vote earlier this month, took on a special interest, joined or started a new NWIR council, or stepped out of your comfort zone to empower a friend, colleague or even yourself, I applaud you! Use your voice and make things happen. Better yet, tell us about it! If you haven’t updated your NWIR membership profile, please go to the website and do it now. While you’re at it, update your LinkedIn account and reach out to other women and men and encourage them to join NWIR!
We have been very busy this year expanding NWIR’s reach through new affiliations with RCI, NRCA plus new relationships we are cultivating with other professional women’s organizations we have met at various tradeshows this year. We need to expand our reach within and outside of our industry to bring more attention to roofing as productive, rewarding career option to future tradesmen and women.
Our Career center is up and running for those seeking jobs as well as those with jobs available to be filled. Our mentoring toolkit is completed and ready for use. We are developing a content library under our Education tab in the website and we have one more webinar scheduled before the end of the year!
What’s yet to come is even greater! Mark your calendar for the 2nd Annual NWIR Day, Saturday, February 9, 2019 in Nashville, TN. It’s full day of friendship, professional development and empowerment, featuring our Keynote speaker, Sherry Holmes, of the DIY Network, and don’t miss the NWIR merchandise from our new online store available in 2019!
So be sure to update your NWIR profile, get your membership ID# and register for NWIR Day through the 2019 IRE. I’m looking forward to seeing and hearing all about what’s new with you.
My best to you always,

Personal Protective Equipment – Factors to Consider
Ensuring that you and your employees are warm and safe while wearing proper PPE (personal protective equipment) is not an easy task. In selecting PPE, there are certain third parties such as ANSI (American National Standards Institute) that certify equipment for efficacy. Equipment without ANSI approval has not been tested as effective and is considered similar to a costume even if they still look the part. Read the full article.

NWIR Denver Colorado Council
The Denver Colorado Chapter of NWIR has been active with establishing our four pillars of Mentorship, Education, Networking and Recruiting. We have been brainstorming meeting ideas for the year, have had a monthly meeting and an additional networking events for extra success building throughout the summer and fall! Members from other states have also been mingling with our groups, and it only enforces the great system we have as NWIR. Our membership is covering product, installation, marketing, legal advice, many groups all interrelated to build our commitment to greatness. This year’s board is being built as the membership increases. The consensus is that we are all unique individuals, but can bring so much to the table, and connect so well on a social/business level.
The November meeting was a guest speaker regarding the Foundations of Accountability. We had 17 attendees. This speaker, Mr. Ty Adams, of Adams Business Results, started his own company regarding reparative construction. Mr. Adams will offer some classes regarding Ownership and Upper Management; Production and Sales, and Supplementing in this state for next year.
We plan to have a December holiday get together on the 7th. Membership is only rising, with new members or members-to-be at each meeting or social event. Contact C. Christie Gorman-McCarthy at email@example.com for more information.
