The Northern NJ Council held their monthly meeting virtually on November 18, 2020. In a continuation of content developed to address membership requests, November’s round table discussion was titled “Thriving in a Male Majority Space”. The discussion included; Erica Sherman of GAF, Christine Mockenhaupt of SRS, LeeAnn Slattery of ATAS International, Eilleen Troia of PB Roofing, and Frances Rodriguez of Roof, Roof, Roofing. Lynn Picone of GAF acted as moderator. The panel shared positive messaging around career growth in a male majority industry. The diverse group represented various career paths with representatives from Finance, R&D, Sales Support, Project Management, and Ownership from three core segments of our industry including; Contractors, Manufacturing, and Distribution.

The discussion centered on an online article from “Leaders in Heels” exploring 3 pieces of advice; Be Brave, Celebrate Diversity, and Don’t Be Afraid to Challenge the Status Quo. Panelists shared stories, experiences, and encouragement.
The group also discussed the ongoing “Gratitude Drive” in support of the Center for Hope and Safety, a local domestic violence shelter. The December meeting is scheduled for Wednesday the 16th at noon, where the group will celebrate the holiday with a casual virtual lunch, sharing favorite holiday memories and getting into the spirit with crafting ideas shared by members.
